Design and Display

First look at the Spark 5 and I was able to reminisce on the Tecno Camon 15 – This is because they share a similar build and design.

I love the spark 5 because it ships with a lot of the trending specification and features such as the big 6.6-inches punch-hole display and others. Inside the punch-hole, you will see the single selfie camera sensor which takes impressive images considering the price tag it brings along.

Meanwhile, the bezels and chin featured on the Spark 5 are well-trimmed resulting in a 90.5% screen-to-body ratio. The display was impressive and I must say I love the colours it produced when I was streaming videos and when I was gaming with the device – It was really crispy and vibrant.

The display is an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels, and it also has a 20:9 aspect ratio with a 266 PPI density.

At the back we have the plastic finish which has a cool gradient look. On the rear panel, seats the responsive fingerprint sensor and a quad-camera setup with a powerful LED light for brighter images even in low light conditions.

Turning over to the right side of the device, you will find the volume up and down buttons, then a power button below that. So, at the left side of this device, we have the dual Nano-SIM and MicroSD slots. The top of the device holds nothing, but the bottom houses the speaker grille, MicroUSB port, microphone and the 3.5mm jack port.

The smartphone has a body dimension of 164.7 x 76.3 x 8.8 mm and feels really cool to hold in one hand. It also seats well in your palm.

Some of the items you find inside the Spark 5 box includes a Sim tray ejection tool, the device itself, a power brick, a MicroUSB for file transfer and charging its battery. You also have a phone case and an earpiece out of the box.

For colour options, you have four different colours which includes Ice Jadeite, Vacation Blue, Spark Orange, and the Misty Grey.

Cameras

There’s nothing really new about the camera of the Tecno spark 5 and this is because the device feature practically the same thing found on its predecessor. The new device also has a total number of five cameras; a single selfie camera and a quad-camera setup at the back.

The rear-mounted cameras includes a 13-MegaPixel primary camera, a 2-MegaPixel depth camera, a 2-MegaPixel macro camera,  and finally the QVGA camera. Just like its predecessor, you can also take photos in HDR and Panorama mode. In addition to that, you will also be able to shoot both 720p and 1080p videos at 1080p.

Upfront, the single selfie camera positioned inside the punch hole is an 8-MegaPixel front-facing sensor capable of also recording 1080p video at 30fps. Just like the main camera, it can also take photos in HDR mode.

Software And Performance

There’s a bit improvement in the internals and performance of the Tecno Spark 5, though the improvement is minimal.

The Tecno spark 5 also ships with the Mediatek Helio A22 processor which was the same processor found inside the Tecno Spark 4. Nevertheless, instead of the quad-core CPU,  Tecno upgraded it to an Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53. For all your graphic processing, you have the same PowerVR GE8320.

This device comes in just one model which is a 2GB RAM with an internal storage of 32GB which can be further expanded via microSDXC (dedicated slot).

Coming to the software side, you have the HIOS 6.1 user-interface which runs on top of the latest operating system which is the Android 10. Meanwhile for connectivity, you have a micro-USB 2.0 port, a 3.5mm jack, Bluetooth and Wifi. Unfortunately for network connectivity, you have just the 4G LTE.

Battery

There’s no improvement in this section. You still find the same Non-removable Li-Po 5000 mAh battery featured in the predecessor. There’s no wireless charging technology neither is there a fast charging technology featured on this device, but the large battery can carry almost for the whole day with moderate use.
